Welcome to the English Department
at Ecole Normale Sup
érieure (ENS) Bouzaréah

 With 19 full-time lecturers and/assistant lecturers , 17 associate teachers, and 15 part-time teachers.

We expect 110 students to major in English Language Teaching for the 2012-2013academic year and we have a total of 506 students studying in the first, second, third, fourth and fifth year altogether. Around 110 students enrol each year.

 English is one of the largest departments in “Ecole Normale Supérieure de Bouzareah. Our school is one of the country’s institutions for teacher training in English, Arabic language & litterature, French, History and Geography, and Philosophy. Our goal is to train Junior High School teachers and High School teachers in the aforementioned specialities.

 We have also launched an English Club. The Members of this club are seeking to realise their innovative and inspirational ideas by organising many scientific and recreational activities like any other club of other departments in the School.

Teachers Training College of Bouzareah, Algiers.

The Teachers Training College in Algiers is a graduate school of education that was created by Executive Decree No. 84-206 of 18 August 1984, the school started fulfilling the scientific

activities that were assigned to in 1991.From 1991 to 1998, and despite the absence of educational infrastructure the College has trained students in different disciplines in the annex of the University of Algiers (le Caroubier).

In September 1998, the Teachers Training Collegeget a more adequate headquarters and thus moved to the former Institute of Technology in Bouzareah, located at 93 Rue Ali Remli - Algiers.Algeria.

Current legal framework of the College,

The Executive Decree No. 08-211 of 14 July 2008 stipulates that the Teachers Training College in Algiers is an independent entity from university.

The Teachers Training College has been headed by 4 directors who are,

Administration

Under the head of the College are placed different organs, sub-directorates, library and entities evaluating the different pedagogic and scientific activities of the College ; each with its own director, assistants and Secretary General (library).

The departments have their own Heads and comprise their respective sub-divisions.

Important data since the creation of the College

In 1996 theCollege started training students for 4 years to get a degree in teaching in several disciplines . Since 1999 the School adopted a new system consisting on training teachers for primary, middle and secondary school separately in the framework of the classical system as follows :

Baccalaureate  + 3 years : Primary School Teacher (P.S.T)

Baccalaureate + 4 years : Middle School Teacher (M.S.T)

Baccalaureate + 5 years : Secondary School Teacher (S.S.T)

Scientific Research

 

The College has 5 laboratories :

 

1- History and Applied Geography Lab : publishes the peer-reviewed journal Hawliatattarikhwaaljoghrafia.

2- Education and Epistemology Lab : publishes the peer-reviewed journal Attarbiawaalipstimolgia.

3- The Science of Teaching Arabic Lab : publishes the peer-reviewed journal Alarabiya.

4- Laboratory of Didactics : under construction.

5- Laboratory of Linguistics and Educational Sociology and Multi-linguistics.

Moreover, the School has 33 research groups accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, and in addition to the Magister and Doctorate degrees granted by the School in the different disciplines, it has a Doctoral School in French.

Journal

The ENS published 22 issues from the journal MajallatAlmoubarriz that changed its name in 2008 to MajallatAlbahith, from which it was published 5 issues. This journal is an academic peer-reviewed periodic concerned with linguistics, literature and humanities with the ISSN number 1134-2009.

Library

1- Resources : The College has a library with 250 seating capacity, containing about 40.000 books and 12000 titles in the different disciplines taught in the College.

2-Multimedia room( bibliographic research room) : It contains 30 computersfor bibliographic research

Conventions with different institutions

The College is the partner of the Ministry of National Education to which it provides teachers in the branches of Letters and humanities. It has also conventions with different Internationalinstitutions and universities :

In Algeria with a focus on the theme of “oral history across generations”and the development of other areas of cooperation

 GRADUATE ADMISSIONS

Graduate Admissions for 2010-2011.

The application fee is 200 DA payable by ‘mandat carte’.

Baccalaureate holders are accepted only for the current academic year. We do not accept all transfers. We accept only those approved by the Head of Studies and the Director.

The Graduate English Department, like other departments, conducts interviews for prospective students. All information can be found online.
